Training Course

ISO/IEC 17025:2017 – Advanced Training Course for Testing and Calibration Laboratories

Accreditation of Testing and Calibration laboratories is used worldwide as a mean to evaluate the competency of the laboratories to produce reproducible and accurate results. Lab Accreditation uses the requirements and processes specifically developed within widely-accepted standards, to promote confidence in Conformity Assessment Bodies such as the Laboratories. It is a very rigorous process that includes assessment of a number of quality and technical requirements of a laboratory’s management system.

Training Course

ISO IEC 17025:2017 Advanced Training Course for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories

Program Duration: 3 Days

Language: English

The requirements are based on the internationally recognized standard (ISO / IEC 17025) for testing or calibration laboratories, which are used to evaluate laboratories worldwide. Laboratory Accreditation Bodies use this standard to evaluate factors related to a laboratory’s ability to produce accurate test and calibration results, including the following:

  • Technical adequacy of personnel
  • Reliability and appropriateness of control methods
  • Traceability of measurements and calibrations to national standards
  • Suitability, calibration, and maintenance of test equipment
  • Test environment
  • Sampling, handling, and transfer of data
  • Quality assurance of test results and calibrations

The Laboratory Accreditation according to ISO / IEC 17025: 2017 also covers the quality system elements related to the corresponding certification according to ISO 9001. To confirm the continuous compliance, the laboratories are regularly re-evaluated in order to check that they maintain the required adequacy. These laboratories participate in regular proficiency testing programs (interlaboratory programs), as part of their ongoing demonstration of competence.

Laboratory Accreditation therefore provides a means of assessing the ability of laboratories to perform specific types of tests, measurements and calibrations. It also allows the laboratory to determine if it is performing its tasks correctly and according to the appropriate standards. Manufacturing companies may also use laboratory accreditation to verify product inspections carried out in laboratories within their premises.

Laboratory accreditation provides formal and global recognition of laboratory results, thus providing customers with an easy way to find reliable testing and calibration services capable of meeting their needs.

ISO / IEC 17025 is a standard exclusively for the management and improvement of the quality of laboratories of any kind. By applying the standard, the competence of the laboratory is developed with respect to its human resources, equipment, methods and testing environment.

The training program is addressed to the administration and personnel of accredited and non-accredited laboratories and laboratories certified according to ISO 9001, who would like to learn more about the requirements of the Standard ISO / IEC 17025: 2017.

Target Audience

  • Managers / Laboratory Executives, Scientists, Engineers, Inspectors / Evaluators and Consultants
  • Personnel of accredited or under accreditation laboratories or laboratories intending to be accredited according to ISO / IEC 17025
  • Personnel responsible for the technical or quality management of the tests or calibrations performed.

Training Course Contents

  • Introduction to Laboratory Accreditation
  • Management and leadership skills of the person responsible for the implementation of the Standard, in order to organize all the quality activities of the laboratory.
  • Interpretation, explanation, and application techniques of the Quality Management System according to the requirements of ISO / IEC 17025: 2017
  • Documentation and validation of laboratory test and measurement methods
  • Calculation of measurement uncertainty
  • Risk analysis methodology
  • Quality Control Charts (QC charts)
  • Conducting Internal Inspections
  • Requirements of Accreditation Bodies

Training Methodology

The teaching method include lectures, internships, and group collaboration. Taking this into consideration, participants are invited to perform group and individual exercises and tasks, as well as role playing exercises, aimed at developing their skills (time management, team spirit, collaboration). At the end, an evaluation test and a satisfaction questionnaire are distributed to the participants to evaluate the results of their training and the achievement of its objectives.
