What is ISO 45001:2018

ISO 45001:2018 is the new international standard for Occupational Health and Safety, which replaces the OHSAS 18001/ELOT 1801 standard and can be applied by all categories of organizations regardless of their subject matter, product, or product service they provide. ISO 45001: 2018 Occupational Health & Safety Management System

The OH&S management system approach applied in the ISO 45001 Standard is founded on the concept of Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA). The ISO 45001 standard incorporates the PDCA concept into its new framework as shown below.

The PDCA concept is an iterative process used by organizations to achieve continual improvement. It can be applied to a management system and to each of its individual elements, as follows:

a) Plan: determine and assess OH&S risks, OH&S opportunities and other risks and other opportunities, establish OH&S objectives and processes necessary to deliver results in accordance with the organization’s OH&S policy;

Certification Process / Required Documents

The Organization interested to achieve certification against OHSAS ISO 45001:2018 Standard requirements should contact ISC Control and fill in the certification application  An initial audit is conducted and, if successful, a certificate of compliance is issued that is valid for 3 years, provided that the organization undergoes annual audits.

Transition from OHSAS 18001:2007 to ISO 45001:2018

ISO 45001:2018 has been valid since March 2018, and the transition period expires on the 11th of March 2021. During this period, organizations that have already been certified against the requirements of OHSAS 18001:2007 will have to revise their system, be audited, and receive the ISO 45001:2018 certificate.
